Transparency remains an ongoing priority for CBO. Because clarity is an important aspect of what it means to be transparent, CBO strives to promote a thorough understanding of its analyses through accessible, clear, and detailed communication. We have recently published several interactive tools, graphics, and workbooks on our website as part of that effort. Today, I am excited to announce the agency’s latest measure with the launch of our pilot podcast, In Our Estimation.
The first episode of this three-part series provides an overview of CBO’s cost estimates. We typically produce 500 to 700 formal cost estimates annually. CBO’s analysts also provide Members of Congress and their staffs with technical assistance and informal estimates for over 1,000 requests. Because of the importance of that work and the attention that it can receive, it is helpful to understand how and why our estimates are produced.
CBO will release the second episode next Wednesday and the third episode the following Wednesday. They will focus on the Congressional budget process and on transparency at CBO.
