An Update to the Budget and Economic Outlook: 2016 to 2026

Report

The deficit under current law is projected to be larger this year, but smaller over the 2017–2026 period, than CBO projected in March. Since January, CBO has reduced its projections of GDP growth and interest rates over the coming decade.

Subsequent projections appear in Budget and Economic Outlook and Updates.

Corrections and Updates

On August 24, 2016, CBO reposted the file for this report with corrections to Figure 2-15, along with the file of data underlying the figures with the same corrections.

On November 1, 2016, CBO reposted the file of 10-year economic projections, adding projections for oil and natural gas prices.

On April 12, 2019, CBO reposted the file for the report with corrections to Table 2-3, along with the file of potential GDP and underlying inputs with the same corrections. The changes correct errors in the calculations of the contributions of labor and capital to growth in nonfarm business output, as well as errors in other calculations that result from those.
