H.R. 7240 would extend for five years existing requirements for a comprehensive federal strategy to promote basic education in developing countries and for annual reports on implementing that strategy. The current strategy to expand access to basic education and improve its quality covers the 2019-2023 period and coordinates the efforts of several federal agencies, including the U.S. Agency for International Development and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
On the basis of information about spending for the current strategy and reports, CBO estimates that extending those requirements under the bill would cost less than $500,000 over the 2022- 2027 period. Such spending would be subject to the availability of appropriated funds.
