H.R. 5856 would reauthorize several programs that prevent trafficking in persons, which are managed by the Departments of Justice (DOJ), Health and Human Services (HHS), Homeland Security (DHS), and State, and the U.S. Agency for International Development. The bill would authorize the appropriation of $241 million each year from 2024 through 2028, for a total of $1.2 billion over that period for those purposes. CBO estimates that implementing the bill would cost $628 million over the 2024-2028 period. Another $520 million would be spent over the 2029-2033 period. Such spending would be subject to appropriation of the specified amounts.
