S. 1466 would require the National Park Service (NPS) to expand the boundaries of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in California to include the area known as the Rim of the Valley Unit, as defined in the bill.
Using information from the NPS, CBO expects that the likelihood of the agency acquiring land within the expanded boundary area over the next five years would be low, because land acquisition typically occurs over a long period of time. On that basis, CBO estimates that implementing S. 1466 would have an insignificant cost over the 2023-2028 period. Any spending would be subject to the availability of appropriated funds.
