H.R. 1256 would establish a five-year term for the Under Secretary for Health of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Under current law, the Under Secretary for Health leads, and is responsible to the VA Secretary for, the operation of the Veterans Health Administration without fixed term limits. In addition, the bill would eliminate certain requirements for filling the positions of Assistant Under Secretary for Health. Based on information from the department, CBO estimates that those changes would not affect the federal budget.
