H.R. 2512 would amend the National Trails System Act to incorporate the Chisholm National Historic Trail, extending about 1,400 miles from Texas to Kansas, and the Western National Historic Trail, extending about 1,400 miles from Texas to Nebraska. The bill would require the Department of the Interior to administer the trails.
Using information from the department, CBO expects that it would cost about $500,000 to develop a management plan and, beginning in 2024, about $400,000 annually to administer the trails. In total, CBO estimates that implementing the bill would cost $2 million over the 2023-2027 period; any spending would be subject to the availability of appropriated funds.
