H.R. 1112 states that it is the policy of the United States to:
Condemn the military coup in Burma,
Urge the release of Burmese elected leaders and members of civil society, and
Engage with the United Nations and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to restore democracy and hold accountable those responsible for the coup.
The bill also would require the Department of State to report to the Congress on the coup and on steps being taken to implement that policy.
Using information about the costs of similar reports, CBO estimates that satisfying the reporting requirement in H.R. 1112 would cost less than $500,000 over the 2021‑2026 period; such spending would be subject to the availability of appropriated funds.
