Under the homeless veterans’ reintegration program, the Department of Labor (DOL) disburses grants to entities that provide job placement, training, and vocational counseling to homeless veterans. The Congress has authorized $50 million for that program for each year during the 2002-2020 period. In 2019, DOL awarded $48 million in grants to 149 community organizations.
H.R. 2224 would require DOL to give veterans with dependent children priority for receiving benefits under the program. CBO expects that requirement would change which veterans receive benefits but not how much grant funding is provided; thus, implementing the bill would not affect the cost of the program.
