H.R. 1771 would encourage the Department of State to consult with representatives of the South Korean government and Korean American families regarding opportunities to reunite those families with their relatives in North Korea. The department also would be required to report to the Congress on its efforts.
On the basis of information about the costs of similar activities, CBO estimates that implementing the bill would cost less than $500,000 over the 2020-2024 period; such spending would be subject to the availability of appropriated funds.
