H.R. 6498 would require the Department of Education to update its College Scorecard website to provide more detailed data on each program of study at postsecondary institutions that receive federal student aid. The bill would require the department to establish a universal net price calculator for students to more easily compare the costs of academic programs at different postsecondary institutions. The bill also would require the department to assess the usefulness of that calculator.
Based on the costs of similar activities, CBO estimates that implementing H.R. 6498 would cost $3 million over the 2026‑2031 period. Any related spending would be subject to the availability of appropriated funds.
