H.R. 7272 would largely codify the activities of the Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security and Emergency Response within the Department of Energy (DOE) related to protecting physical security and cybersecurity of pipelines and liquefied natural gas facilities.
Using information from DOE, CBO expects that the bill’s requirements are largely being met under current law. CBO estimates that implementing any additional activities under H.R. 7272 would cost less than $500,000 over the 2026-2031 period. Any related spending would be subject to the availability of appropriated funds.
The CBO staff contact for this estimate is Aaron Krupkin. The estimate was reviewed by H. Samuel Papenfuss, Deputy Director of Budget Analysis.
