S. 894 would require the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to coordinate with the Department of Defense to identify service members who work in health care and may be interested in working for VA after separation from the military. VA would be required to refer those service members to one of the department’s recruiters. (They would not be guaranteed a job with VA.) The department would be required to report to the Congress on the program. Based on costs for similar initiatives and reporting requirements, CBO estimates that implementing the bill would cost $1 million over the 2022-2026 period. Such spending would be subject to the availability of appropriated funds. For this estimate, CBO estimates that the bill will be enacted in fiscal year 2022.
