S. 213 would designate the 2.6 million acres of wilderness in the Lake Clark National Park and Preserve as the Jay S. Hammond Wilderness in honor of Alaska's fourth governor. The wilderness represents about 65 percent of Lake Clark’s 4 million acres.
Based on information from the National Park Service on the cost of changing the name of a wilderness area, CBO estimates that S. 213 would have no significant effect on discretionary spending because revising federal maps and signs to reflect the new name would be done in conjunction with scheduled reprinting and other routine maintenance.
Enacting S. 213 would not affect direct spending or revenues; therefore, pay-as-you-go procedures do not apply. CBO estimates that enacting S. 213 would not increase net direct spending or on-budget deficits in any of the four consecutive 10-year periods beginning in 2028.
S. 213 contains no intergovernmental or private-sector mandates as defined in the Unfunded Mandates Reform Act and would not affect the budgets of state, local, or tribal governments.
