Hurricanes Katrina and Rita

In August and September of 2005, the Gulf Coast was hit by two of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes ever to reach U.S. shores. The hurricanes devastated coastal communities from Florida to Texas and left nearly 80 percent of New Orleans under water. In the months and years following the storms, CBO analyzed the budgetary and economic effects of those twin disasters.
