H.R. 3391 would reauthorize the Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Research Program, which is administered by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and authorize $12.6 million per year over the 2024 2028 period for that purpose. In 2023, NIH allocated $13 million for the program. The act also would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to report to the Congress on the initiatives receiving funding and on any advancements in research made as a result. Based on historical spending patterns for this and similar programs, CBO estimates that implementing H.R. 3391 would cost $57 million over the 2024-2029 period, assuming appropriation of the authorized amounts.
