H.R. 8813 would require the Department of State to support extending the mandate of a United Nations fact-finding mission on alleged violations of human rights in Venezuela; the mission’s mandate expires in September 2022. The bill also would direct the department to encourage other U.N. member states to follow suit and to urge the United Nations to address any such violations. Lastly, H.R. 8813 would require the department to incorporate the mission’s findings in developing U.S. policy towards Venezuela and to report to the Congress on its implementation of the bill.
