We are excited to launch a fully digital version of our recently issued report, Options for Reducing the Deficit: 2014 to 2023. The volume, which was released on November 13, contains 103 options to decrease federal spending or increase federal revenues over the next decade. Users of our website will now be able to search for options according to their major budget category (mandatory spending, discretionary spending, or revenues), budget function (such as national defense, transportation, or income security), and major program category (such as business and finance, housing, or Medicare).

The options presented in the report come from many sources, including legislative proposals, various Administrations’ budget proposals, Congressional staff, other government entities, and private groups. The options are not recommendations by CBO nor are they an exhaustive list, but rather are intended to reflect a range of possibilities encompassing both tax and spending policies. Over the next week, we will also have a series of blog posts with excerpts from the report that are linked to the digital version.

Annette Kalicki and Robert Dean are members of CBO's web team. The report was the result of work by almost 150 people at CBO.
